Arte na Freguesia Group Exhibition 2024

This exhibition, organised by the Junta de Freguesia de Cascais, showcases the work of ten diverse artists living and working in Cascais. Each artist has produced an original and unique collection of work that features different public spaces within the Cascais Municipality.

In addition to these individual works, the artists have also collaborated to create a selection of ten iconic Cascais doors. One by each artist. This collaborative piece of art will be put up for auction, with proceeds going to Cercica, a charity that supports the inclusion and integration of people with disabilities into Portuguese society.

Works by Katherine Masters

This series loosely explores the methods of coffee fortune-telling or tasseography by allowing the coffee stains created on paper to reveal patterns and stories.  What may seem abstract at first takes on figurative nuances for the viewer. The artist finds a correlation between how coffee stains on paper change over time (due to their acidity), a relevant and poignant reflection of how the seas are slowly changing and being affected by human behaviour.  The works are both an appeal to save our vast oceans and a stark warning of their demise if we don’t act fast.

This landscape selection is being exhibited for the first time here in Galeria de Arte Cascais. Another selection of works from this series will be exhibited in another location later on in the year. The works not on show here at Galeria Arte de Cascais veer away from landscape representation.

Please come visit!

The opening of the exhibition will take place on the 23rd of February 2024 but if you are unable to attend then the exhibition will be open until the 22nd of March 2024. We look forward to seeing you there!
